It was made around 1750 in Trevisio ( Italy ) by Petrus and Antonio Dalla Costa.
It bears an apocryphal label of Michaël Deconet in Venice, dated 1754.
The back is made of 2 pieces of fine maple unevenly undulating towards its edges.
The top is made of 2 pieces of pinewood with irregular pores.
The ribs are in maple with gentler undulations.
The head is in maple with short, gentle undulations.
The varnish is orange-brown on a golden background.
An Anecdote !
The great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is reported to have owned and played a Dalla Costa violin.... Could he have laid his hands on this instrument?!?
Having owned a Pecatte Dominica, Nicholas Maire, a Sartory and Pierre Simon, I finally found my happiness in modern bows!
I work with the master bow-Nice, Jean-Pierre Gasq for many years.
I have two beautiful today chopsticks made of his hand and each with their high quality gaming and sound.
One, mounted in gold rose, has a fantastic sensuality and depth of sound.
The other, mounted in silver, gives me great satisfaction in the nervousness and power it develops.
